10 Things to do to Improve your Page Rank
Theoretically, you should be able to rank well for your website simply by writing great content. This will be recognized by the search engines and you will be rewarded for the quality of your ideas. Additionally, your contribution to the internet will be appreciated by readers. Unfortunately, this ideal scenario is far from true when it comes to search engine optimization. There is much more to Internet marketing than great content.
While great content–entertaining and informative articles are indeed important–there are many more things that have to be taken into consideration when trying to improve your page rank. The theory of how the web works and the reality behind it are different. While you can get traffic from sources other than search engines, they are a major source of traffic. This is why it’s worth taking the time to grasp the many aspects of search engine optimization.
By optimizing for Google, the biggest search engine, you will attract significant traffic and you will also tend to comply with most of the guidelines of the other search engines. Google is the 800 pound gorilla. Once you’ve satisfied many of its ranking criteria, the other search engines will probably fall into place. Since there are so many search engines with so many ranking criteria, it’s not possible to comply with them all. So it makes sense to mainly focus on the biggest one to improve your search engine optimization.
Here, then, are ten things to do to improve your search engine optimization.
1. Write great content. It should be fresh, not duplicated, and it should be quality content, not boring information. Since this is what users want, search engines like it, too. They will notice whether your visitors linger on your page, as well as how many return visitors come to your website. By frequently generating new content, search engine spiders will come back often to update. Because your website provides value, search engine spiders want to make sure that people get to know about it. Your chances of getting found increase with every piece of original content you add to your website.
2. Use Google Sitemaps to grasp how Google views your website. You’ll also know when your website was last updated and if there are any problems with it. It’s also highly beneficial to provide a sitemap for people who visit your website. Internet marketing is about helping people find your great content.
3. Socialize within your niche. This means using social media and joining communities where people are interested in what you have to say about a common interest. By asking questions and by answering them on forums, you’ll be able to leave a link to your website in the signature box. There are many ways of connecting with others in your niche like blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin. A vital aspect of internet marketing is belonging to a community.
4. Although metatags have fallen out of favor with Google, fill them out anyway. Put in keywords and descriptions. This is a good internet marketing strategy because this will help you get ranked in some of the smaller search engines. Also, do some other on-page optimization. For example, there are numerous things you can do to help get your keywords noticed, You can include them in H1 and H2 headers, use them once in bold, once in italic, and once in link. Also, if possible, add them in the URL.
5. Proofread your content and make your spelling accurate. Google tends to want to autocorrect misspelled words. However, some websites deliberately use commonly misspelled words to get traffic. Alternatively, you also want to impress your readers and demonstrate that you’re an expert in your field. So if you do deliberate misspelling, don’t go overboard.
6. Your website should have valid HTML or XHTML. Since search engine spiders don’t recognize javascript, Flash, and DHTML, websites heavy in these will be seen as offering little value because spiders can only read text. So while it’s fine to add these for human readers, also recognize that your website should also be rich in text to satisfy the spiders.
7. Write articles on other websites that point a link back to your website. These can be article directories, blogs, and hub sites like Squidoo, etc. Good internet marketing is about getting a network of links pointing directly to your website.
8. Use less competitive keywords. By reducing the level of competition for popular keywords your chances of search engine optimization improve. The idea here is to have many pages with many less competitive keywords, so that you increase your odds of getting discovered.
9. You can make sure that visitors can find you by using search engine registration, directory submission, and social bookmarking.
10. Be sure to use alt tags. Since search engines do not read images all you images and links need text tags.
Search engine optimization will improve traffic to your website. When you apply these ten tips to your website, it will make a big difference in your page rank. Internet marketing is not only about creating campaigns, but also about making it easy for the search engine crawlers to index your website.
